Welcome to Cooley Dickinson Hospital's American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center.

We offer many different classes including initial certification, renewal, and hybrid classes. Courses include basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), HeartSaver, Choke Saver, and Supersitters Babysitting.

This course is a two-day course for those who have never taken an AHA ACLS course, or who have an expired certification. You must attend both days to complete the course.

You are required to have the current textbook for this course. If you already own one or have access to one before, during, and after the class, you do not need to purchase one here

Pre-course Requirements

  1. Review and understand the information in your ACLS Provider Manual. 
  2. The precourse self-assessment is mandatory. You must print and bring your certificate of completion on the day of your course. You must obtain a 70% or better. Link to required pre-course work https://elearning.heart.org/course/424

This is a recertification course and is for participants with a non-expired AHA ACLS certification card. Those with expired certifications will not be admitted into this course.

This course is for those who have previously taken BLS and have an active non-expired AHA BLS card.

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

You are required to have the current textbook for this course. If you already own one or have access to one before, during, and after the class, you do not need to purchase one here.

This course is an AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) blended learning course. This course will satisfy the requirement for both BLS Certification and BLS Recertification.

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

Please note: the cost for this course is for the skills check only and does not include the online portion.

Step 1: Before the skills check, complete BLS Heartcode Online. Bring your certificate of completion to your skills check. 

Step 2: Complete a BLS Skills Check in person (approximately 30-60 minutes) on the date/time of this registration. You must bring your HeartCode certificate of completion to your skills check. 

 

The AHA’s Heartsaver CPR AED course trains participants to give CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

 

Please Note: This course does not meet the requirement for Cooley Dickinson Employees - Cooley Dickinson Employees must take a AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) course to meet job description requirements.

 

Heartsaver First Aid Course provides students the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of first aid. The course empowers students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community. Topics covered include: first aid basics, medical emergencies, injury emergencies, and environmental emergencies.

This course is for Cooley Dickinson Staff Members ONLY.

This course is for Preceptors at Cooley Dickinson who precept new hire employees, transferring employees, or students. By participating in this program the learner will 

  • Identify personality types to enhance education experiences
  • Discuss the role of the preceptor in the clinical setting
  • Describe an environment which supports learning
  • Identify characteristics of the adult learner
  • Identify personal teaching and learning styles

This program has been approved for 5.4 contact hours under the guidelines of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

This course is recommended for restaurant employees, food service personnel, those working with high risk individuals, and anyone wanting to learn choke safety. This course teaches a person how to rocognize a choking victim, and to respond using abdominal thrusts. Practical training with manakins and discusssion are included with this course.

Upon completion each student will receive a certificate valid for 2 years.

This class is taught by American Heart Association certified instructors.

This course certification meets the 105 CMR 605.000 mandated regulation for Massachusetts that states that each food service establishment having a seating capacity of more than 25 persons or more shall: have on its premises, while food is being served, employees trained in, manual procedure approved by the Department to remove food lodged in a persons throat.

This course is for Cooley Dickinson Employees ONLY

The cost for CDH employees who do not require this training in their job description is the cost of the online NRP module + $200 for the NRP skills check at CDH on this date.

In this class students will learn handling, feeding, diapering, fire safety, first aid, when and whom to call for help if needed and CPR.  This course provides the baby sitter with the information needed to take care of a child safely.  Participants will receive a course completion certificate.   Ages 12 thru 16. 

We recommend that your child wear warm, but comfortable clothing.  The conference room can be a bit chilly in the morning.
